Welcome to Sharkys Lemurs!!

Welcome!!! My name is Sam, and I'm going to be your guide today. if you look below, you will see the animals of the week. this week is the Ring-tailed lemur, it's one of the managers at the place where I works, favorite animals ever. Feel free to look around the site, and join a discussion. You could even start a discussion, I strongly encourage it!

Animal of the week: Bobcats.
The Bobcat (Lynx rufus) is a North American mammal of the cat family, Felidae. With twelve recognized subspecies, it ranges from southern Canada to northern Mexico, including most of the continental United States. The Bobcat is an adaptable predator that inhabits wooded areas, as well as semi-desert, urban edge, and swampland environments. It persists in much of its original range and populations are healthy.

With a gray to brown coat, whiskered face, and black-tufted ears, the Bobcat resembles the other species of the mid-sized Lynx genus. It is smaller than the Canadian Lynx, with which it shares parts of its range, but is about twice as large as the domestic cat. It has distinctive black bars on its forelegs and a black-tipped, stubby tail, from which it derives its name.
At sharkarosa we own two bobcats. their names are Kiara (the girl) and Mr. Tinkles (our Male)

last week: Guanaca
The guanaca is one of the four types of south-american camel. There is the llama, the alpaca, the vicuña, and the guanaca.
These are more commonly known as the spitting camels. the guanaca is an ancestor to the llama, they look almost exactly alike.
Most guanaca's are tan with a white underside. A lot of the guanaca's at sharkarosa are semi-friendly and won't spit at you, but we have
a small group that spit if you even look at them. the first one is not too bad, it's just the food in their mouth. but after they've spit that, they
bring up stuff from way down deep in the acids of they're stomach and spit that at you. the other problem is that they have incredibly good aim,
so they will most likely hit you every time. Plus, it smells horrible. My favorite is either "big-red" who isn't supposed to be with our other guanaca's, or monster, our main male.

10/26/07: the ring-tailed lemur
The ring-tailed lemur comes (like all other lemurs) from the island of madagascar. They eat various fruits, veggies, and insects. The female is the dominant lemur in the troop, she is called the queen. Our queen at sharkarosa is named Lexus, she is about three years old. My two favorite ring-tailed lemurs are Meeko, a two year old lemur, and T.J. (tarzan junior) a premee six month old baby lemur.

10/19/08: Bactrian camel.
These beautiful creatures have two humps.
Our Bactrian camel, is named Alpine, for she is pure white.
Quick quiz question, when going on a camel race would you want a one hump (dromedary) camel, or a two hump (bactrian) camel?
check out the forum on Bactrian camels under Animal of the week, for the answer.
